What this agreement does
This agreement engages an engineer to mix or master a defined set of tracks. It fixes the fee, the number of revisions included, the delivery format and deadline, and the credit.
It is the most operational of the templates: most of its value is in preventing an unbounded revision cycle.
When a label uses it
- You send tracks out for mixing or mastering.
- You are working with a new engineer for the first time.
- A release date depends on delivery by a specific day.
Key clauses explained
Revisions included
How many passes the fee covers and what an additional pass costs. Open-ended revisions are how a fixed-fee mix becomes a loss.
Delivery specification
Formats, sample rate, headroom, stem requirements, and instrumental or clean versions.
Payment schedule
Deposit versus balance on delivery, and whether files are released before final payment.
Explanations only — the drafted clauses themselves are inside the app.
Common mistakes
- No revision cap.
- Not asking for instrumental and clean versions up front, then paying again for them.
- Leaving the deadline informal when a distribution date is already booked.
