What this agreement does

A split sheet records who wrote what share of a composition, signed by everyone in the room on the day. It is the document that publishers, collecting societies and administrators rely on when the work is registered.

The in-app version validates that shares total exactly 100% before it will produce a PDF, which removes the most common reason registrations get rejected.

When a label uses it

  • Immediately after any writing session with more than one writer.
  • Before registering a work with a collecting society or publisher.
  • Before a track goes to a distributor, not after it starts earning.

Key clauses explained

Writer shares

Percentages per writer, summing to 100%. Round numbers agreed on the day beat precise numbers agreed a year later.

Publisher and society details

PRS, ASCAP, BMI, GEMA, SACEM membership and IPI numbers, so registration can actually happen.

Work identification

Title, alternate titles, date of creation and the recording it relates to.

Explanations only — the drafted clauses themselves are inside the app.

Common mistakes

  • Leaving the split until the track is finished, by which point memories differ.
  • Confusing composition splits with master splits — they are separate.
  • Shares that total 99% or 101% and get bounced at registration.
